Steampunk Gathering, Ashton-under-Lyne - September 2023

Steampunk is a mixture of Victorian dress and futuristic, steam-powered machinery, with a drop of fantasy, horror, and historical fiction added to the mix. There are several groups and clubs across the world who meet up regularly to showcase their attire, and sometimes inventions. This particular gathering was at the old Portland Basin in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside, a region of Greater Manchester. Not necessarily my thing, but the costumes offer some great photo opportunities, and the people wearing them are more than keen to be photographed in them. Some of the shots were a little tricky as I wasn’t using a flash, and even though the Canon EOS R6 has excellent low-light capabilities, there were times when the darkness was just that bit too much for it.
